MARIO / journalist /
Why did you decide to work in the cultural sector?
It happened by chance. I used to work as a TV journalist for some years, and always had a particular appetite for cultural events, namely music, dance and theatre. Suddenly the opportunity came around with an open call from Loulé Municipality looking for people within the communication area and I decided to embrace that opportunity.
Is there a particular situation or event that you can remember that made you decide?
I already knew some of the people that formed part of the team and I knew they were particularly dynamic and committed to promoting culture in Portugal and specifically within the Algarve.
And what is special about this kind of work for you?
I believe that Culture is one of the most sublime manifestations of the human being. The ability to think and to portray images, messages and emotions through art is one of the factors that makes us humans so special. The fact that there are so many different cultures around the world is even more interesting and magical. And also the fact that through Culture and Art we are able to change people’s minds, by constantly questioning and transforming our reality is what makes Culture one of the most thrilling areas to work in.
