JOAO / responsible for the project in Loulé / 1995:
Why did you decide to work in the cultural sector?
It was not exactly a decision. 25 years ago, while still studying at university, the opportunity arose - and I took it -, to work in the cultural department the municipality of Mértola, the historical town where I lived and worked until 3 years ago.
Is there a particular situation or event that you can remember that made you decide?
Since young age, I have always been interested in cultural and artistic activities, and when i was 26 years, I was invited to coordinate the area of culture, heritage and tourism of Mértola Municipality, which i did for 15 years, until 2017.
Since then, I moved to the Algarve, but I can not do anything else that is not related to culture, art or heritage. Some people say it is a flaw, for me it is a virtue and a pleasure.
And what is special about this kind of work for you?
The importance of working in these areas are the people and projects we know and work on over time.
See their evolution and the impact they have on the future of the protagonists and of the communities and territories where they are integrated.
Is there perhaps even something like a passion for it or moments in your work that are very special to you and that you would not want to miss?
Yes, it's certainly a passion. If not, why would you work in an area where things happen, most of the time, outside 9am to 5pm work time and on weekends?
I try not to miss any stage, since the creation of the idea, discussion, creation of the team, production and final presentation of the project to the public.
