Varazdin / dancer / 2019
So about 2 years ago I was subbing for a teacher in a studio I used to dance in and I was teaching a choreo to "Happier". A song that just came out and I really liked it so I did a little jazz/lyrical choreo to it. After we danced the choreo one last time I saw that one of the girls started quietly crying. I came very worried to ask her what had happened, and she told me she just needs to sit down and that she will explain to me later. She told me that I don't have to worry, and we can just continue with our stretching to finish the class. So I finished the class and then came towards her to ask her if she's feeling better now. She told me that her grandpa died two weeks ago and that she just felt like dancing this choreo to this song and these lyrics made her feel hopeful and that her grandpa is in a better place and that she and her family will be okay eventually. Knowing that something I did during that class made her find peace made me feel like it all just makes sense. At that moment I realized that I really want to try pursuing dance as a career because I feel like it is such a beautiful way to have an input in others life through movement (art).
