Grimsby / dancer / 1997
There is nothing else that makes me feel the way that dancing does. I remember being inspired at around six years old when watching 'river dance' and 'lord of the dance' on VCR in my living room, and it made me feel alive. When I look back now, it was like all these people were communicating with me even though nothing was being said. At five years old, I had no idea that dance would be my lifeline. I grew up just my Nan and me, Nan was unable to work, but she ensured I went to whatever dance classes she could afford. Growing up, I never felt that I fit in with any dance schools or clubs I attended, but It never mattered what anybody said or did. I felt extremely unheard and misunderstood, but none of that mattered as soon as I started dancing. Dance is just who I am.
